Cutting liquid calories is one of the EASIEST ways to lose fat or maintain weight loss without compromising the nutritional quality of your diet.

Liquid calories are either not very nourishing (I.e. soft drink!) or the nutrients are easy to obtain from elsewhere (fruit juice and flavoured milk).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the case of juice, vitamin C is EASILY obtained from whole fruit and vegetables and you get the benefits of fibre and many other micronutrients. While the sugar in pure fruit juice is not ‘added,’ it still ends up being a concentrated sugar and calorie source that we simply do not need.

In the case of flavoured milk, opting for a plain milk or even making your own flavoured milk with less added sugar is a far better way to get in protein, calcium, phosphate and other nutrients milk is rich in. And just for clarity- I have excluded milk sugars from the ‘sugar’ content of this chocolate milk. Some flavoured milks do contain less added sugar but some can contain up to 7tsp of added sugar ?.

Nutrients aside, liquid calories are generally not filling and can even leave you hungrier sooner because of their effect on blood sugar levels.
