❌Emotional eating is NOT bad!❌
.
Emotional eating is normal. But it can be done in a not-so-healthy way. ?Let me explain…
.
As humans we want to feel pleasure and not discomfort. We would rather feel happy VS like a ball of anxiety from a stressful day. This is how we are wired. So it’s normal for us to gravitate towards enjoyable foods, like a brownie, when we’re feeling crummy.
.
Emotional eating is a spectrum. On one end you have enjoying a brownie for a pick-me-up on a bad day and on the other end you have eating an entire pan of brownies in an effort to forget and fix your bad day. Brownies are pretty magical, I’ll give them that, but they won’t erase your day or fix your emotions. ?♀️That work is left to you, gorgeous! Stomach ache or not!
.
Here are some tips for emotional eating ?
.
1️⃣ Check in with your physical fullness level. What would be comfortable?
2️⃣ Ask yourself what you’re REALLY needing. Is it to talk it out? Checkout from reality momentarily? Feel comforted? How can you work to solve this?
3️⃣ If you DO eat emotionally past what feels comfortable to you then don’t beat yourself up. Use it as a learning experience and move on.
.
Learning to cope with your emotions in a healthy and productive way might feel pretty much foreign ? it sure did for me! It takes time to learn how to cope with them without food.
