Have you heard about the #DairyMatrix?

In recent years, nutrition science has evolved and shows that nutrients alone do not always predict the health benefits of a food. The complex relationship between the various components of whole foods, referred to as the food matrix effect, is commonly to thank for health benefits.

This is true for dairy. The ‘dairy matrix’ refers to how the different components in dairy foods interact with the foods physical structure to produce health benefits. Macronutrients (fat, carbs, protein), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and the physical structure of dairy foods work together to produce positive health effects.

Historically dairy foods have been avoided due to concerns about them being fattening, the saturated fat or salt (in cheese) content. However, the latest research shows that thanks to the ‘dairy matrix,’ milk, cheese and yoghurt have many health benefits including:
– reduced risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
– good bone, teeth and muscle health
– supporting a healthy weight

Check out my stories for the link to the evidence to further support the above.
