Here’s the rundown ?
.
Diet & wellness culture might tell you “fresh is best” but the reality is it’s not always. The “best” choice depends on our life, accessibility, etc. Utilizing frozen, canned and dried actually can be a great way to stay on budget with grocery shopping because, let’s be real, ya gotta consider that!
.
1️⃣ Buy fresh produce that’s in season. (it’s usually the stuff on sale- plus it tastes better than out of season stuff!)
2️⃣ Try canned. Canned mushrooms are mah jaaaaaaam! Add these babies to sauces or stir frys to give a little veggie boost and texture (lowkey also makes me feel fancy as heck!)
3️⃣ Opt for frozen. 97.9% of the time I use frozen veggies on the daily for dinner. I mean 6 minutes in the microwave with no work on my end? Count me IN.
4️⃣ Get dried. I’m OBSESSED with these freeze dried mangos. Rarely do I say a fruit tastes like candy (cause, like, it’s not candy.) but this stuff… Imma say it! It tastes like candy ? And it’s just the sweet natural goodness of mangos!
.
When it comes down to it ➡️the nutrient content of canned or frozen or dried fruits and vegetables is really comparable to fresh in the grand scheme of things. And in some cases it might actually even be higher.
.
Research really does suggest that eating enough fruits and vegetables is linked to lower risk for many chronic diseases such as heart disease and may protect against certain types of cancer. They can also lower risk of eye issues, digestive problems, improve blood pressure and also have a positive effect on blood sugar.
.
The key to nutrition in a non-diet journey is to separate it from diet culture. To create your own intrinsic motivation to want to enjoy them because it feels good to your body & nourishes it. While STILL feeling ok enjoying a big a$$ bowl of mac n cheese without a piece of broccoli in sight when you want it!
