How do you start your morning?⠀
?⠀
Part of my morning routine is making a nutrient-dense smoothie. It’s quick, convenient, and portable nature makes it an ideal breakfast for those of us that are always rushing out the door in the morning.⠀
?⠀
Smoothies are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, all of which are abundant in fruits & vegetables. Its blended composition makes it easy to digest after a long night fast.⠀
?⠀
The other great thing is that you can design your smoothie recipe to fit your eating template, whether it be vegan, vegetarian, paleo, or low carb.⠀
?⠀
The standard American breakfast on the hand is typically made up of highly refined carbohydrates/modified starches, added/artificial sugars, inflammatory omega-6 vegetable oils, food dyes, food stabilizers, and gums.⠀
?⠀
The processing of these grains strips these products of fiber and are void of essential micronutrients, causing a blood sugar avalanche and fluctuating hunger cravings. This spells disaster for anyone trying to lose weight and sets the stage for diabetes.⠀
?⠀
Drinking your average 12 oz. glass of orange juice is really just drinking a tall glass of sugar. Its 34g of sugar (natural fructose and possibly added sugar) rapidly raises blood sugar and insulin in response.⠀
?⠀
A whole orange on the other hand has fiber to slow the digestion of some of that sugar and is loaded with antioxidants, vitamin c, live enzymes, and many other powerful vitamins and minerals.⠀
?⠀
But unlike a real orange from nature, store bought OJ has gone through pasteurization, heating, and a preserving processes in order to be shelf stable in stores. If the manufacturer didn’t do this by the time you got your carton of OJ, it would be rotten.
