I used to spend hours in the grocery store…
.
I’d analyze every little thing.? Think “Imma get this! Imma do it!” and then get scared and put it back. It was stressful and exhausting.?
.
Now, don’t get me wrong. ?I’m NOT saying that ingredients don’t matter. ?♀️What you put into your body DOES matter! I mean come on, I’m a Registered Dietitian after all! It’s just that we don’t need to micromanage every little thing and doing so will lead to more negative health impacts overall by raising stress hormones, causing disordered eating, etc. I did that for years and it was NOT fun.
.
As an intuitive eater I’m able to, yes, fuel my body with those more nutrient dense, health promoting foods for the most part ?but when I see a box of fun flavored oreos ?that I want to try you bet I’m going to grab them and eat them without an ounce of guilt, shame, or anxiety! Would I want to eat them 24/7? No. That wouldn’t feel good ?♀️

Giving yourself permission to eat all foods is step 1️⃣. And yes, that might mean eating more of those “fun” foods at first. But over time as you realize you CAN eat all of those foods and maybe that doesn’t feel so good you learn to incorporate gentle nutrition and think about things like ingredients.
.
My advice for ingredients? Focus first on what you eat for THE MOST PART and what is actually feasible and accessible to you. Try to incorporate “whole” foods as the base of your meals like grains, protein sources, fruits & veggies/ Then give yourself permission to PLAY with fun sauces, spices, condiments, etc! But remember: don’t skip to this before focusing on making peace with food! That is V important❤️
