We can be forgiven for thinking Açai bowls are healthy- the nuts and bright fruits used on the top makes it look oh so healthy
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Unfortunately though, similar to smoothies and smoothie bowls, many Acai bowls have so much fruit, fruit juice, Acai and fruit puree packed in that that they end up giving TOO much sugar. While we say sugar from fruit is fine- it should be in moderation – which Acai bowls often are not
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some bowls can contain around 500 calories and the equivalent of 8-10 teaspoons of sugar. They also usually lack protein so may not fill you up!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Save them for a hot day treat or to make sure you’ve got a balanced bowl, choose one that includes a more moderate amount of fruit and some protein (powder or yoghurt).
