A member of @the_socieaty recently asked about this on one of our weekly coaching calls. She was struggling with mindlessly eating snacks in the evening not out of hunger, not because she even necessarily wanted them, but because she was bored and wanted something to do. It was leaving her feeling not-so-great physically and she needed advice on how to handle the situation.
.
My answer? ➡️ Firstly, you need to make sure your body is adequately fueled during the day and there isn’t a biological drive towards food at night because your body needs more. The biological side of things always wins! So focus on this first.
.
Secondly, see if you’re trying to use food to meet a need. Can food meet that need for you in a way that feels good? Sometimes, yes, food can be a pick me up. Totally fine and normal! But when that food gives us a tummy ache because we ate past fullness… does that really solve anything or just temporarily solve it then add another problem to the mix? Then, I helped her by sharing resources within The SociEATy to help her with both the biological side of things but also the emotional side of things.
