SHOULD YOU GO KETO?

WHAT IS KETO
• The ketogenic diet was originally developed as a treatment for Epilepsy and in some forms of Epilepsy it is very effective.
• In more recent times this diet has been gaining traction amongst the everyday person looking for a fast weight loss strategy.
• The underlying mechanism is that the body coverts fat into ketones to use for energy instead of the body’s preferred source – carbohydrate.
• When the Ketogenic diet is used in the general population it focuses on getting the majority of calories from fat and restriction of carbohydrates to less than 10% of total calories which usually equates to less than 50g per day with moderate amounts of protein [the medically prescribed ketogenic diets are more strict].

DO I RECOMMEND IT?
I don’t recommend it. While some (short term) success is evident, the cons outweigh the pros for me. Also I LOVE carbs. If you are going to attempt then definitely see a Dietitian.
