Rice cakes are having a momentttttt on social media. They’re legit everywhere! Here is my take on them as a non-diet dietitian ?

If you enjoy them, go for it. They can be a super satisfying crunchy snack. You have permission to dress them up in fun ways, like with pizza toppings, if you like BUT… you knew there was a but coming, didn’t you? ?

A rice cake dressed up as pizza is not a piece of pizza. It doesn’t have the taste. It doesn’t have the same nostalgic feel. It can be a fun snack but it’s not the same.

While, yes, you have permission to enjoy a pizza rice cake you shouldn’t feel guilt, stress or anxiety eating a REAL slice of pizza. It’s not “healthier” to eat a pizza rice cake over a slice of pizza if that’s what you’re really wanting.
.
What’s healthy is having a food relationship with all foods and enjoying the pizza when you want it. Especially those times with loved ones when you’re makin’ memories and just feeling joyful as heck! Can I get an amen?!

If you’re thinking “Yeah but, Colleen, I gain weight just by looking at pizza, I could never LET myself eat it without feeling guilty” got you.
