The Sweet Treats of Mother Nature
Nature’s candy!
We would all like to eat more of it – if we had easy access to clean, fresh fruit.
But how to keep it fresh once it’s prepped? . .
***Fresh Berry Prep:
(Buy in larger quantities when on sale/or in season. You can freeze the extra! Btw…purchasing FROZEN berries is an excellent way to save time & money. Frozen fruit is great for smoothies and retains it’s nutritional value.
.
. ***Rinse berries and grapes with a Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of cool fresh water- rinse again & let dry VERY well then store in glass jars (let air dry VERY well first). I have found that if the berries/grapes are truly ready to grab & eat, we use them faster. I’m more likely to throw them on oatmeal on busy mornings, or as a snack if they are all ready. .
.
***The apple cider vinegar is an excellent natural cleaning agent, that I believe prolongs the life of the berries…if you let them air dry completely before stroring.
Another tip, is placing a folded paper towel on the top/inside you glass jar, or Tupperware-type container to absorb moisture.
These berries usually last me 4-5 days in the refrigerator when stored correctly. Moisture is the enemy.?
.
. ***How to prep apple slices for the week ahead so that they don’t turn brown:
Soak apple slices in 100 percent *Pineapple Juice = works like a charm!
OR
Soak slices in a large bowl of cold lemon water. This method works better than squeezing the lemon directly on the apples. Plus, they won’t be super lemony.
Ratio: 1 tablespoon of lemon juice per 1 cup of water.
These usually last about a week in the refrigerator when stored correctly.
.
. ***Cube melon, and store refrigerated in glass for 4-5 days.

First off, when buying berries and grapes, it’s a good idea to purchase in bulk when they are on sale or in season. You can freeze the extras for later use in smoothies or other recipes. Frozen fruit is not only convenient, but it also retains its nutritional value. Plus, it saves you time and money!
To keep your berries and grapes fresh, rinse them with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water before storing them in glass jars. Make sure to let them dry completely before sealing the containers. Placing a paper towel inside the jar can help absorb excess moisture and prevent the fruit from spoiling too quickly. With proper storage, your berries and grapes can last 4-5 days in the refrigerator.
When it comes to prepping apple slices, soaking them in pineapple juice or lemon water can prevent them from turning brown. This will keep them looking fresh and appetizing for up to a week in the fridge. As for melons, cubing and storing them in the refrigerator in glass containers will keep them fresh for 4-5 days.
