Are you a brown or white egg fan?
Post by @balanced.eating.dietitian
? Have you ever wondered what is the difference?
Diet culture demonizes foods for silly reasons and often without scientific evidence. ?
Here are a couple of examples!
1️⃣ Brown vs. White eggs:
? Aside from the colour of the eggshell, there is little difference between brown and white eggs. The eggshell colour depends on the breed of the hen. Generally, white shell eggs come from hens with white feathers, while brown shell eggs are produced by hens with brown feathers. Nutritionally, both brown and white eggs are identical unless the feed has been enhanced for speciality eggs, such as omega-3.
2️⃣ Organic vs. Non-Organic:
I love @langernutrition ‘s breakdown on this topic (and many other topics) and I will add the link below. Her summary is this:
“A lot of people can’t afford to buy everything organic (or anything organic), and
There is nothing ‘bad,’ toxic, or harmful about conventionally grown food. If you prefer to buy organic, that’s FINE! But know that you’re not harming yourself by buying conventional.
The studies that appear to prove that GMOs are not fit for human consumption, are more often than not very poor in their methodology, biased, and small. Or all of this, plus they’ve been done on rats. ? There are just as many, if not more, studies, – along with the consensus of most of the scientific community – that show the harmless nature of GMOs and that organic food just isn’t superior to conventional.”
