Guidelines to keep your little one safe while eating:⠀
⠀
These ages are APPROXIMATE- always do what is appropriate for your own child’s development. They may be older than these ranges when you feel comfortable moving to the next level. Take this as the youngest you’d want to advance to the next level.⠀
⠀
⭐️ IN GENERAL: very hard, crunchy, chewy, or sticky foods are best served at age 4 and up.⠀
⠀
⭐️ SIZE MATTERS: anything hot-dog round or nickel sized can be a choking hazard and should be sliced lengthwise.⠀
⠀
⭐️ SIT WHILE EATING: all ages should ideally be seated while eating. Choking is more likely to occur when up and moving around.⠀
⠀
✅ AROUND AGE 4: tortilla chips, popcorn, whole nuts and seeds, whole grapes, cherry tomatoes, raw carrots, raw apples.⠀
⠀
✅ BETWEEN AGE 1-2 (APPROX): puffed snacks (think pirates booty texture), thin rice cakes, most crackers, finely chopped nuts, halved grapes, halved cherry tomatoes, shredded carrot and apple or very thin slices.⠀
⠀
I separated larger chopped nuts in the pic because you may want to wait on these bigger pieces of nuts until around age 3.⠀
⠀
✅ UNDER 1: stick to smaller pieces and texture should be something that they can easily mash or will dissolve, like Cheerios or fruit melties. Ground nuts or nut butter (just not big globs). Quartered grapes and tomatoes, grated raw veggies.⠀
