Apples (or any other fruit or veggie!) are NOT too high in carbs or sugar. ?‍♀️Do I need to say that one more time for the people in the back?!?⠀

Most people don’t get enough fruits or veggies on any given day, so when I hear that a diet tells you to avoid any of them my head wants to explode. ?Keto is by far the biggest culprit of this fruit & veggie fear mongering that I’ve been hearing about for what feels like forever now. And it breaks my heart!?⠀

Now, I’m not talking about those who use the keto diet for epilepsy or other medical nutrition therapy (don’t get your panties in a bunch!), I’m talking about the general public using keto for it’s strict food rules. You have full right to make your own diet choices, and if you want to do keto that’s your choice, but not something I can get behind as a registered dietitian.?‍♀️⠀

Don’t fear fruit. ???Don’t fear veggies. ???Don’t fear food. ?Instead of listening to food rules how about trying to eat mindfully so you know how different foods make your body FEEL? Or using the hunger scale to help guide your eating choices? THAT? Let’s not be afraid of the good stuff – apples, bananas, grapes, potatoes, carrots, corn – these foods are essential for our health and well-being. Instead of following strict food rules, let’s try eating mindfully and listening to our bodies. How does your body feel after eating certain foods? Are you truly hungry, or just bored? Let’s use the hunger scale to guide our eating choices. ?⠀
