We’ve just hit winter in Australia, so it might be time to give our immune systems a boost. There are ALOT of nutrients that have an impact on our immune system so a variety of healthy food from all of the food groups is key but here are some of the key nutrients to focus on.

Vitamin D is a another big one but the majority comes from sun exposure. When the sunlight hits our skin, this triggers our body to make Vitamin D. Few foods contain Vitamin D so food only makes a small contribution to Vitamin D levels. Food sources include eggs, liver, fatty fish (e.g. mackerel, herring and salmon) and cheese.

If your finding you’re getting sick easily or illnesses linger longer than they should then it is a good idea to get your doctor to check your blood levels for iron, vitamin D and folic acid.
