No one talks …

Recipe titles are full of diet culture and I’m not here for it⠀
.⠀
??No one talks about this. But terms like low carb, keto, paleo, whole30, vegan, skinny, lightened up, sneaky, “naturally sweetened,” sugar free, oil free, gluten free, grain free, guilt free etc etc are like the click bait of the recipe world.⠀
.⠀
? It drives me nuts because including these terms is part of an SEO (search engine optimization) strategy and ignoring these trends, as a food blogger, means missing out on that traffic sometimes – depending on the blog. I get why some bloggers focus on this. Trends = traffic. Traffic is necessary to grow a blog and business.⠀
.⠀
??‍♀️ Are we conditioned to judge a recipe’s health factor based on the title alone, not the ingredients?⠀
.⠀
??And I get it. Who has time to check ingredients on every recipe that looks interesting? The title should absolutely accurately describe the dish.⠀
.⠀
?But including all the diet BS? It’s so triggering, even to me.⠀
.⠀
??That’s why I try to avoid this as much as possible. Some of my recipes do have “vegan” or “GF” in the title but NEVER low carb, keto, paleo, sugar-free, grain-free etc.⠀
.⠀
??TL/DR: diet terms in recipes perpetuate fear of food and skew our judgement of whether a recipe is healthy or not.⠀
