Hands up 🙌 if you agree!
Let’s be real, at this point in our lives, after following bogus food rules for years and years, listening to your body isn’t second nature.😤 It can be so frustrating to see people (I’m guilty of this too!) on Instagram saying “just listen to your body!” Like, WTF 😡… if we could all just do that we wouldn’t have any issues with food, right?🙄
Learning to listen to your body is just that… RE-LEARNING. Because after years of dieting and food rules you don’t know HOW anymore. 🤯Rather than getting frustrated over not knowing how, put the expectation in your head that you’re going to have to learn, that it won’t be perfect, but you CAN get there.❤️
Here are a few of the top tips that I give to new members of The SociEATy intuitive eating community who are starting the re-learning process👇
1️⃣ First make sure you’re eating enough food overall. It’s important to remove the biological “pull” towards food. Eat to satisfaction and fullness (this is a whole other learning process in itself!)
2️⃣Don’t stock your pantry on day one with allll of your previously forbidden foods. 🥞🍔🍩🍫🍕This can feel V overwhelming and cause some all-or-nothing thinking to come in (much like in the dieting days!) I recommend working through your food rules/neutralizing foods in a more stepwise way (this helps to maintain body attunement!)
3️⃣Speaking of body attunement… you can’t JUST eat the food and expect to become an intuitive eater. 😲There is WAY more to it than that. Do you like the food? Is it enjoyable? Did it keep you satisfied? How did your body feel? Etc.etc!
There are SO many misconceptions about intuitive eating in that you just need to “listen to your body” and that it’s all about “eating what you want when you want”. Those are parts, yes, but not all. Be sure to follow @no.food.rules for more true intuitive eating guidance!
