Now is a good a time as ever to break the food rule/belief that canned foods are “bad” or “unhealthy”. ⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Canned foods still provide nutrients, fiber, protein… all things your body needs. Perhaps not always at the level that fresh items might provide but all the same – they give our bodies what they need!! ⠀
.⠀
.⠀
So if you fear that all you will have available or can afford are shelf stable items like canned goods… or frozen items to keep in the freezer so they will last for a few weeks (instead of a few days) – stop yourself form going into a panic about it or feeling bad about eating those options and find ways to enjoy them! . ⠀
Use this time as an opportunity to get creative in the kitchen and experiment with different ways of preparing canned items to your liking and satisfaction. ⠀

I think now would also be a great time to practice gratitude for the invention and existence of canned goods. What a gift that food, something we need to live and thrive, can be stored for weeks and months ahead without spoiling. AND having them be so affordable! We didn’t always have that luxury.⠀

Instead of buying into diet culture’s fear mongering of canned foods and sending people into a panic and spiraling into guilt for eating them – let’s keep it to FACTS: 1. Food guilt is super unhealthy, so when it comes to eating, skip it! 2. Canned foods DO provide nutrients and energy your body needs. You will be just fine if you eat them! ⠀

What’s your favorite canned food and how do you enjoy them best? Mine are tuna (with mayo), skinless boneless sardines (packed in olive oil), and chickpeas.
