….Anyone else triggered by these?!? ?
.
Ohmigosh. ?♀️If I had a penny for every snack pack I forced myself to eat I’d be a rich woman. They were like the staple of every dieter in the early 2000s, right?!
.
These packs set the expectation in so many of us that a snack “shouldn’t” be over 100 calories. To be honest? A 100 calorie snack is ❌ NOT ❌ going to cut it if I’m actually hungry. Thankfully now, living with no food rules, I feel no guilt over having more than 100 calories at snack time but it took me a while to get here.?
.
I don’t think that knowing a snack is XYZ calories is necessarily a bad thing. I don’t think these snacks shown are “bad” either! It can guide your decision as to pair something with it or not. For example ➡️ if I’m suuuper hungry and I see a bar only has 100 calories I’m like “Okay cool what can I add to this?” but if I’m not super hungry and maybe have more of a crunchy craving the lower calorie content might be enough. And if you enjoy these snacks, go for it!!! No shame in that choice, you have permission to like the foods you like.
.
The important thing here with caloric content is to understand it doesn’t DETERMINE your decision. It’s all just data.?
.
When I’m teaching gal pals to become intuitive eaters in @the_socieaty I DO recommend not focusing on nutrition labels towards the beginning of the journey. But my goal is to really help you not be triggered by them & see it as data & not a determining factor of your decision to or not eat something. It’s also about WHEN to look at it and consider it and when to not.
.
Like, if I’m going to eat a piece of chocolate cake or order the creamy plate of pasta from a delish restaurant, I’m going to eat that regardless of the nutritional content.
.
Back to the snack packs… if you feel snack trauma from these “smart choice” marketing tactics know that you’re not alone. & know that you can heal from that and regain and healthy relationship with food ❤️
