DOES SOY CAUSE CANCER?? This is one of the most common questions I get everyday from clients, and through DMs on Instagram. Soy contains phytoestrogens called isoflavones, that are able to bind to estrogen receptor sites in the body, however, are MUCH weaker than human estrogens. In fact, these phytoestrogens can actually determine what kind of activity they will have based on the estrogen receptor sites they bind to. For example, binding to uterus and breast tissue actually result in an anti-estrogen like activity, whereas binding to bone, they have very weak estrogen like activity. Both of these are actually GOOD things ✨Studies have shown that consuming soy may lead to a decreased risk of developing breast and/or prostate cancer ?? These results were shown at about 2-3 servings per day of traditional soy foods- tofu, tempeh, edamame and soy milk ?.
