The ‘Health Halo’ effect refers to when a food is perceived to be healthier than it truely is because of marketing claims that are used.

These new ‘bites’ (which as as calorie dense as many biscuits) uses a few of them. For example:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– ‘Gluten free’ to many people gives the impression that the product is healthy. Necessary for people with Coeliac disease or non Coeliac Gluten sensitivity but not necessary for health reasons for others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– Coconut some times gets labelled a ‘super food’ for no good reason.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– Prebiotic fibre is really good for feeding our gut bugs but we get plenty of it from other fruit, vegetables and whole-grains. Processed foods are not the best place to get it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– Wholesome seeds and grains. While this is good, go to the source for your grains.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What ‘health halo’ terms do you see that drive you mad?
