STEP ONE:
Test for ripeness by giving the fruit a gentle squeeze. It should yield to moderate pressure.
STEP TWO:
To be sure your avocado isn’t overripe or bruised, peel off the small brown stem on top. If it comes away easily and is green underneath, your avocado is ripe and ready to use. On the other hand, if  it’s brown under the stem, that indicates the avocado is overripe and probably bruised inside.
If the stem doesn’t come off, it may be fine to bring home, but it isn’t ripe enough to eat quite yet.
